What is a Murano vase and where can you find them?

Murano vases are glass artworks made on the island of Murano in Venice, Italy. These vases are known for their unique beauty and have been popular since the 13th century.

How are Murano vases made?

Murano vases are hand-blown and shaped by skilled glass artists. They are renowned for their colorful, lively designs, which often include vibrant patterns and forms that can be either simple or complex.

Many Murano vases are also decorated with gold or silver threads, giving them an extra shimmering, glamorous effect. These vases can be small and understated or large and impressive, and they are often used as decorative pieces in the home or as collectibles.

From vintage finds to our own collection

At VETRO our love for Murano began with the hunt for special vintage finds — lamps with history, color and the distinctive character that only mouth-blown glass can have. For years we curated vintage Murano lamps while simultaneously working on developing our own collection.

In close collaboration with Murano maestros, we have spent several years refining shapes, colors and details into what is today our Candy collection. A collection created with respect for tradition, but with VETRO's own eye for color, proportion and modern interiors.

That is why you no longer find vintage lamps at VETRO. Instead, our world now consists of our own handmade glass lamps — designed by us and produced in Italy in close collaboration with our glassblowers. Lamps that carry the legacy of Murano forward, but are created for today's homes.
