Murano lamps are handmade by Italian glassblowers from Murano or the area around Murano. They are distinguished by their colorful glass, patterns and unique shapes. At Murano Vintage we curate only original Murano lamps and special interior pieces.
We have a special love for the recognisable 1970s swirl design and on our webshop you can find both vintage Murano pendants, flat ceiling lamps, mushroom lamps, wall lamps and vases.

How do I recognise Murano glass?
If you want to know whether what you have in your hands is original Murano glass, here are some tips to look for
1. Look for the glassblower's signature or a sticker
Murano glass is a craft and is often not signed—but you might be lucky. If the glassblower has engraved their name the signature can be hard to spot, so we recommend looking in daylight. See an example of a signature here
During the 1970s/80s it became more common to put an em label / sticker on the glass to indicate origin. We often find that previous owners have removed these on vintage pieces. See an example of a label / sticker here

2. No two Murano glass pieces are the same
Blowing glass is a craft and Murano is in a class of its own; in fact Murano glassblowers are among the most respected in the world. Because the glass is blown and then shaped, you will never come across two identical pieces. If you do, it is not mouth-blown glass; you are likely looking at pressed glass (mass-produced).

They look similar, but they are never exactly the same. This is where you can really tell you have a mouth-blown piece of glass. See other wall lamps
3. Beautiful shades, challenging techniques and unique patterns
If you travel to the island of Murano in the Venetian lagoon you will be immediately overwhelmed by all the strong shades and decorative glass pieces the island is filled with. Renowned glassmakers such as Archimede Seguso, Venini, Flavio Poli and Fratelli Toso have been behind some of the most recognisable Murano artworks, playing with all the colours of the rainbow. At Murano Vintage we are equally fascinated by the techniques that are allowed to stand out on the white opal glass.
