At home with a painter & illustrator in Brussels
A painter and illustrator based in Brussels, creating colourful scenes inspired by food, flowers, interiors and the small moments that bring people together.
Can you tell us a little about your creative work and your relationship with colour?
I'm a painter and illustrator based in Brussels, creating colourful scenes inspired by food, flowers, interiors and the small moments that bring people together. Growing up in sunny Perth (Western Australia) gave me a very optimistic relationship with colour, and bright tones naturally find their way into almost everything I create.
How would you describe your home in Brussels, and what kind of atmosphere do you try to create there?
Our home is colourful, playful and filled with things we genuinely love. We wanted it to feel creative and inspiring, but also calm enough to completely switch off and relax.
Where do you usually find inspiration for your colour combinations — in art, interiors, fashion, the city, or everyday details?
Everywhere, honestly. I find colour inspiration in food, markets, travel, interiors, nature and all sorts of small details I come across during the day.
What drew you to Murano glass, and how do you feel the VETRO lamp fits into your interior?
I've always loved Murano glass for its craftsmanship and timeless beauty. The VETRO lamp feels like a functional piece of art and fits perfectly amongst the colourful objects and artworks in our home.
What role does lighting play in the way you experience colour and mood in your home?
Lighting completely changes how a space feels. In the evening especially, warm lighting makes colours feel richer and creates a much softer, more inviting atmosphere.
