2022: Visit Venice and Murano island with Murano Vintage

If you’re interested in glass art, history and food, Venice is the perfect destination. Murano Vintage has been to Venice – and we take you along on our latest trip to enchanting Venice and the famous glassblowing island - Murano.

The trip to Venice and Murano Part 1

The trip to Venice - by land and by water

If you’re planning a weekend getaway it’s easiest to fly to Venice Marco Polo Airport. The airport is located on the Italian mainland and is only a short boat ride from the legendary island. Right outside the airport you’ll find the pier where you can book your own private boat for about €120, or take the public waterbus for about €30. If it’s your first trip to Venice we highly recommend booking a private boat on arrival, which gives you the full experience of entering Venice and will drop you off as close as possible to your hotel (the drivers are also extremely helpful 😉). You’ll have plenty of opportunities to use the waterbus during your stay – for example to and from Murano island. We will share our experiences on Murano island in The trip to Venice and Murano Part 2.

Hotel in Venice – a city full of possibilities

Venice is a mecca of culturally rich hotels with romantic Italian interiors. Venice is divided into neighborhoods, and on this trip we stayed at Hotel Giorgione, which is located in Cannaregio. The location is central and makes it very easy to reach Murano, as the waterbus to Murano is only a 10-minute walk from the hotel.

Dining in Venice – a taste experience

Venice is full of fantastic restaurants and culinary delights, and we could easily write a whole book just about the food. Fish tops every menu, and it’s generally recommended to order antipasti and the restaurant’s seafood platter. Here is a short list of some of our favorite restaurants in Venice:

  1. Trattoria Ca’ D'Oro – a small family-run restaurant located in Cannaregio in one of the little alleys. Even in the absolute low season it’s often fully booked, and we recommend visiting a few days in advance to reserve a table.
  2. Trattoria Alla Palazzina – beautifully situated by one of the canals. The restaurant is known for its homemade pasta and lovely fish dishes.
  3. Busa Alla Torre Da Lele (located on Murano) – this restaurant is mentioned in the Michelin guide year after year, and for good reason. Enjoy a truly great lunch and an Aperol Spritz in the sun, then continue exploring the island.

Shopping in Venice – it’s unavoidable

There are plenty of shopping opportunities in Venice. It’s no coincidence that it’s a popular destination for couples and groups of friends – there really is something for every taste.

A must-have when you’re in Venice is one of the classic Venetian carnival masks and, of course, glass art from Murano. You’ll find the colorful glass on every corner, with a wide selection to choose from.

In the Calle Larga area you’ll find exclusive international brands like Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Burberry – but of course also Italian names such as Prada, Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Loro Piana and Valentino.

Italian coffee in Venice – anywhere, anytime

Italy is (also) known for its exceptionally good coffee, and it’s available in every bar and restaurant. In Italy espresso reigns and the Italian word for coffee is caffé, which is synonymous with espresso. While in Scandinavia we can easily spend a long time enjoying a good cappuccino, coffee culture in Italy is very different. It’s perfectly normal for Italians to enjoy a un caffé at the counter and then move on immediately.

Bring your dog to Venice – the perfect match

Italians love dogs, and there are no issues bringing your best friend to Venice. It’s common to see dogs in bars and restaurants in Venice, and you’ll meet many sweet dogs as you walk through the narrow passages. So it’s definitely possible to take a trip to Venice with your best friend 😊
