Colored glass rods are melted into the clear base glass and twisted into soft, flowing swirls while the glass is still glowing hot.

The craft: How a Candy lamp is made
The process behind a Candy lamp is fascinating — and demanding. Here are the key steps:
Preparing the colored glass rods
First, the colored glass rods that will create the swirl patterns are produced. These rods — called "cane" in Italian — are made by drawing heated, colored glass into long, thin sticks. It requires precision, as the thickness must be consistent throughout.
Fusing
The glassmaster gathers a blob of clear glass on the blowpipe and rolls it over the colored rods arranged in the desired pattern. The rods melt into the base glass and form the colored lines.
Blowing and shaping
Now the real magic begins. The master blows the glass while rotating and shaping it. This is where the straight lines of color turn into the flowing, organic swirls. The speed, rotation, and breath determine the character of the pattern — and this is where the master’s years of experience show.
The final form
The glass is shaped into the desired lampshade — round, oval, or tailored to the specific design. It is then cooled slowly in a special oven to ensure durability and strength.
