Description
Sculptural ceiling lamp in mouth-blown opal glass with a swirl pattern. Can be mounted directly on flat surfaces and used as both a wall and ceiling lamp. The glass has a sandblasted interior and emits a pleasant light. The lamp includes a hand-formed suspension in solid brass with a treated finish. Handmade on Murano Island, Italy. Due to their artistic nature, no two lamps are identical; both the glass and the suspension may vary in appearance. Variations in texture/size/shade and small fine air bubbles reflect elements of its handmade origin.

What is Murano?
Murano is an island off Venice, Italy, world-renowned for its glass art and the craftsmanship behind it. In 1291 the Italian government, due to fire risk, decreed that glassblowers were only allowed to work on the Murano island. Over the past 700 years, everything from the glass bottle to the mirror has been invented by Murano glassblowers.

Murano is far more than just a beautiful island. Being a Murano glassblower is a special certification and a mark of quality in itself. It typically takes 7–10 years to become a Murano glassblower, and so this distinction is reserved for the very best.

What are Murano lamps?
Murano lamps are handmade by Italian glassblowers from Murano or the surrounding area of Murano. They are distinguished by their colorful glass, patterns, and unique shapes. At Vetro we curate only original Murano lamps as well as special interior objects.

How are Murano lamps produced?
Our Murano table lamps, ceiling lamps, and wall lamps are blown in the old traditional way from or around the Murano area. The glassblowers are called maestros and their craft has been passed down through many generations. There are many glass techniques, but the Italian glassblowers from Murano keep their glassmaking techniques and craftsmanship closely guarded, and as with other glass, it is first heated and then shaped.
How does Murano glass get its color?
In the work process of shaping a glass lamp, minerals are added. They are what give the glass its beautiful color. Occasionally both gold and silver are used to create patterns in the different glass layers on lamps, bonbonnieres, and other glass objects.
