Glass wall lamps: How to use Murano wall lamps in the entrance, hallway, and kitchen
The entrance, hallway, and kitchen are spaces often overlooked in interiors—but this is where lighting can make the biggest difference. These areas typically have limited space, low ceilings, and a need for functional light. Murano wall lights in mouth-blown glass solve all three challenges with style.
Why glass wall lights are ideal for small spaces
A wall light in Murano glass mounts directly to the wall and takes up no floor space. That makes it perfect for narrow areas where a floor lamp or a large pendant would be in the way. At the same time, mouth-blown glass casts light both upward and sideways, so even a small space feels open and well lit.
Unlike metal wall lights that often create harsh shadows, Murano glass diffuses light softly. This is especially beneficial in hallways and entrances, where harsh light can feel cold and unwelcoming.
Wall lights in the entrance
The entrance is the first thing your guests see—and the first thing that greets you when you come home. One or two Murano wall lights in the entrance immediately set the tone for the rest of the home.
Tips for entrance lighting:
- Placement: Mount the wall light at eye level (about 160–170 cm from the floor) for the most flattering light
- Number: A single wall light is enough in a small entrance. In a larger entrance, two lights on either side of a mirror create an elegant, symmetrical look
- Color: Choose a warm color like amber or white—it gives a welcoming first impression
Hallway lighting
Long, narrow hallways are some of the hardest spaces to light well. A single ceiling light often casts shadows at both ends, and pendants hang too low in a hallway with standard ceiling height.
The solution is a series of wall lights spaced evenly along one or both sides of the hallway. Murano glass wall lights are ideal here because they:
- Mount close to the wall and don’t obstruct passage
- Distribute light evenly along the hallway’s length
- Work as decorative elements that break up an otherwise dull wall surface
A rule of thumb: place wall lights 2–3 meters apart for even illumination without dark spots.
Wall lights in the kitchen
The kitchen requires good, functional light—but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring. A Murano glass light in the kitchen adds personality and warmth to a room otherwise dominated by hard surfaces and cool light.
Murano wall lights work particularly well:
- Above the countertop: As a supplement to the main dining light, wall lights provide an extra layer of warm light that makes mealtimes cozy
- By an open shelf: A wall light beside open kitchen shelves highlights contents and creates depth
- In the transition zone: Between kitchen and dining area, a glass wall light serves as an elegant link
Plafonds as an alternative
In rooms with particularly low ceilings, a Murano plafond is a strong alternative to a wall light. The plafond mounts directly to the ceiling and provides general light for the whole room—perfect as main lighting in a small kitchen or a narrow hallway.
You can advantageously combine a plafond as the main light with one or two wall lights as mood lighting in the same room.
Choose the right size
The size of your wall light should suit the room’s proportions:
- Narrow entrance or hallway: Compact wall lights with a 15–20 cm diameter so they don’t protrude too far from the wall
- Kitchen or larger entrance: Wall lights with a 20–30 cm diameter provide more light and visual weight
